Son In The Attic
By Stephen Howe
There's a star emblazoned, brilliant
on a Myrtle Beach momento.
One of uncountable things about you that make me smile.
You're with me at the office,
in the truck & in the den.
In the glass of the desktop I reflect
on the complex composite you've become.
Once malleable, then mischievous
through sophomoric to focused talent
gaining skill & speed as a skier on ice
accolades so abundant that they lay
sprinkled among the boxers & reeds of your
penthouse perch.
Euphoric on your arrival, concieved in love
we've basked in your warmth & twinkled back
at the lifelong friend you've become
As a family we careen toward a watershed summer
ripe with promise, as tin men through a poppy field.
Know that I'll always look out for
& up to my sun-kissed son.
